Convenience Food Versus Nutritional Choices
CNN recently posted an article titled: “Ultra processed foods is linked to 50% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease and developing other health conditions, including common mental disorders.”
The article explained that higher intake was considered in the study about one serving per day, and this amount raised the risk of developing or dying from dozens of adverse health conditions.

The message here is loud and clear: the standard American diet is a disaster in terms of its impacts on health. Eating a nutritionally dense and calorie-restricted diet is the pathway to better health according to my favorite luminaries on this subject: Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Joel Kahn and Dr. Valter Longo.
While the Nicer Slicer is not going to help you with your GBOMBS consumption (greens, beans, onions, mushrooms, berries and seeds (as Dr. Fuhrman describes them), it can help you to finally decide it’s time to divorce junk food! Now if you do want a sandwich, you can use 1/2 the bread or bagel - toasted and sliced, it is better tasting, better eating anyway.
When you are having guests over you can make hors d’oeuvres with an exact idea of the ingredients. I have made bagel chips to take to a party with baked in spicy toppings. They always disappear with guests asking for more. A single bagel creates 16 chips. 6 bagels makes 96 chips. A dozen bagels can make, in 45 minutes to an hour, almost 200 chips.
With the Nicer Slicer you can have your cake, (your toast really,) and eat it too! Being sensible about our diet is pivotal to improving health and increasing longevity. I recently cut back on the use of oil on salads and one trick I am now fond of is taking store bought Greek style dressing and cutting half of the calories by adding the juice of a lime for a standard salad for 2 or 3 people. This is one of those tricks where less is not just more, it’s better.
That’s one of the essential aspects of the Nicer Slicer lifestyle. I still send sandwiches off with my boys in a bagged lunch. The sandwiches are made with toasted bagel halves I quarter with the slicer. It is less starchy, and it is better tasting, as the bagels have a bit of a crunch from the toaster and the soft just baked interior of the bagel retains some of its humidity to create the trifecta effect of 1) Less calories, 2) Better taste, 3) Lower cost.
The Nicer Slicer lifestyle is a shift away from thinking that you cannot make tasty food at home for yourself and that lowering the all-important calorie count does not mean you have to give up on great taste or convenience.
